This is so true and is how I met my girlfriend Emma!
Where better to meet people than where you spend every waking hour?
Wow, this is how I met my boyfriend too! And it’s how everyone else I know/work with met their partner too!!! (note that “everyone I know” is the equivalent of “everyone I work with”)… What – a – coincidence.
Now, here’s the real question: How does this eliminate upon consolidation? What’s the J/E?
Someone be creative…

That picture looks more like “dating your married co-worker.”
I’d like to impute your interest.
Dated after six weeks on the job, now partners in our own firm. Nobody understands accountants except accountants.
I married a military man… but nobody said I fit a particular stereotype. Although I did spend about 2.5 hours explaining to him what I do, to no prevail.
sounds like the author is a big 4 type. this definitely less prevalent at smaller firms.
Accounting class in college is a great way to people, too. So many couples (now married) I know met in intro to accounting!
Hey, that’s how I met my wife. And my girlfriend…
Awesome Bob
You can meet people outside of work?? Who has that sort of time?
My roommate from college works for PwC in Chicago, and I have never heard of so many stories of cheating, drinking and gossip. It could be the next reality show or soap opera.
Don’t most firms look down upon that? At least my firm does. You can’t work with that person if you are dating/married to that person. But my girlfriend is an accountant at another firm so I understand why accountants date accountants. It’s easier. You don’t have to explain why you haven’t showed up to spend time with her for four months out of the year and why you have to leave on a weekend.
dating an auditor/accountant? No, thanks 🙂
I agree with Jessica. I may have eye-humped every woman in my office, but at the end of the day, I couldn’t stand the thought of describing broken controls or screwy clients to an accountant in bed. Ew.
It’s just like being at the zoo. If they want two animals to mate, they lock them in a cage together. At least for auditors, this is pretty much the same thing. Except that if a female turns me down in the audit room, I will get in trouble if I bite her throat.
To Laurel: There are SOOO many accounting girls with military men!! I, myself am one, and my best friend (whom I met during my internship at the firm we both now work at) married a Marine!
Also, I think the official tally of couples who have met, dated, and gotten married at our firm is around 10, and we’re a regional firm with only 300 employees.
Did anyone figure out how the people in the picture are “standing”. Which way are they facing? Hint: Are you seeing two left hands?

Anyway, I would rather not date an accountant. Sometimes I just think it is best to leave work at work. If there are two accountants in the house, chances of leaving work at work are close to zero!
We had a term for this on my team at KPMG. It started when everything at KPMG are named with a K, like KRisk, KRoam, etc. We called it KLove. I was it was really fitting!
Got to watch out for dating colleagues – it can only lead to problems when you get found out or when you break up!
If you date accountants at other firms this may work better though, as both being accountants you would likely have a lot in common and tend to think the same way in many cases.
I will be Mrs. Co-Worker on October 9th!
Marrying a co-worker this summer!
My husband and I met at a Big 4 firm and now have a newborn. Not only does he have the curse of 2 accountant parents, but I was studying for the CPA the entire time I was pregnant, so he heard about 9 months of Becker lectures. I’m very worried we’ll have another CPA on our hands – uh oh!
Public Accounting. Where Jon’s Mum met Jon’s Dad.
